Email still going to old DNS record

I helped my dad put up his work site in the last few weeks by changing his original DNS record to the new hosting package, which includes email. It seems that everything is working well, however in the last day or so he's noticed email messages being sent to the old webmail host.

How can this be happening, and how can I eliminate it? My opinion is that the records haven't updated thoroughly, and some people are still getting the old records. Could that be it?

How long ago did you switch the DNS, and what was the TTL set to? Sometimes it can take a few days for DNS settings to propagate.

there may be a serial or timestamp field in the SOA record that needs modification so that the secondary (and possibly other) dns understands that the MX or other records have changed.

I updated the DNS records during the week of October 23 by going to my registrar website and logging in. I changed the nameservers, and saved the changes. Did I miss something? I didn't see a timestamp or serial option.

you are referring the the assignment of the authoritative domain name servers which happens at the domain registrar.
i am referring to the resource records in the zone file, specifically the SOA record (aka Start Of Authority), which happens at your domain name servers.
