People try 100s of tricks to emphasize their web presence. :)

My 2 days experience.

I was in search for small web development requirement (our inhouse team cannot handle this technology), after researching over 100s of firms and a direct chat + telephonic conversation made me think, that these companies are only lead by few people (less then 5) claiming there web presence to be more then 100+.

We were looted by a similar experience last year, were one of our websites required migration (this migration process from Hosting Provider 1 to Hosting Provider 2 took around thirty-five days), was worst part of same..

Although, this KEYWORD CENTRIC businesses are on top of SERP results.
*Suprisingly a few niche sectors, were there is a HUGE MONEY* :)

Agreed, and "10 years of experience" is usually 1 of actual hands on, 3 of "what someone told them," and 10 of the Art of BS. Recent tech support conversation, working with a "big corporate" CMS system:

Me: "See in the blue bar? Where it says 'Main Page'?"
Support: "Yes?" (What of it, you peon?)
Me:"We need to be able to change that value. This is their shopping cart entry page, not their 'main page.'"
Support: "Not gonna happen."
Support: "You might be able to do it with CSS."
(Nearly dies . . . then)
Me: <title>Main Page</title> <-- "Change this with CSS?"
Support: Probably

The redeeming factor is, as you found out, that the man behind the curtain is always revealed eventually, without much coaxing.
