Adding (Google) maps to website

I have a web photo gallery structured around countries/regions. Was thinking of adding in each gallery a small map of the area. A Google map looks great, but if I go to the Google Maps FAQ and use the tool to generate the HTML code and insert the HTML code into my pages, Google ads show up. Is there a way to insert a Google map without having Google ads show up?

If that's not possible, are there other free maps available in the web? I had a look at openstreetmap.org, but it does not cover many areas (for instance Borneo is a big blank spot).

you can specify just about any map display you like with the right javascript using the Google Maps API [code.google.com].
