International Traffic. Does it matter where site is hosted

Hi-

I am new to the internet world and have built a site for the Brazilian market. The site currently has a .br extension but redirects to our servers in the US.

Here are my questions:

1. Would it be smarter to host our website in Brazil? Would this help?

2. What is going to be the best method for attaining Brazilian internet traffic?

3. We are currently conducting the following:

- re-writing the the URL code for optimized SEO
- Conducting backlink campaigns via article marketing (but submitting to US article sites)
- Trying to establish reciprical link campaigns from sites which our competitors have as backlinks
- Ground marketing / Flyering at Universities to promote our site
- Orkut (a social tool similar to Myspace/Facebook) marketing email campaigns
- Press releases (but with US-based online PR companies)
- Conducting a Google Adwords campaign (not sure if this is smart as the bulk of our CPC visitors view the site and leave within 50 seconds) --Please tell me thoughts on this

--------------------------------------------------------------

We are looking for more ideas, but most importantly, need to know if our site should be hosted in Brazil or if we need a certain type of server that would automatically redirect things in order to gather more Brazilian traffic. Thanks for your helpful responses

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], Andrwe!

if you are optimizing for brazil, it would be best if you hosted in brazil and if your links were from brazilian sites.
you should also make sure that your language specification and content type/charset specifications are correct.
