i'm trying to cut down on the number of item in my
<head>
, and i see that i've got the standard two meta tags for favicons:

<link rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
<link rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" href="/favicon.ico" />

do you still need both of them these days? or is it okay to take one of them off? just wondering if anyone knows which one is the best one to keep

I had both links but took them off last year, although I left the favicon image in place. I have noticed that IE7 loads my favicons without the links, and does a lot better than IE6 did even with the links.
