Since going to press Skype has issued the following statement: "UPDATED: Some of you may be having problems logging in to Skype. Our engineering team has determined that it's a software issue and hopes to have this resolved quickly."Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Skype Users Locked Out [computing.co.uk]

I only now have come to realize how dependent I am on Skype. I am cut of from my employees in my main office (have to use the good old telephone) and from the freelancers that work for me in different countries. And actually I just realized that of some of them I do not even have a phone number...
If this persists for another day I will have to reinstall ICQ or MSN Mesenger (do they still exist?)

Yes - I just blew the dust off of trillian - I too have guys I work with that use Skype as their primary source of communication.
I'm not really ticked off or anything, but I really wonder how this got where it is
Do the status updates seem a bit vague to anyone else? It's almost like the calls you get about a sick loved one..
Things are looking a little better, there have been signs of improvement, etc.
The closest we get is "deficiency in an algorithm within Skype networking software". I wonder when the dificiency was introduced, and other geeky things like that.
I see a total lack of phrases such as "We've identified the problem, it was x,y,z" and "Our latest push of the fix has proven to fix the intial issue, but there are still.."
Again, I'm not ticked - I don't pay anything for the software, It's just kinda weird..
Better than if the entire user database has been stolen or illegally copied...
I wish they'd come out with some statement that actually make sense. So far everything has been kind of this plastic-smile, "It's-not-as-bad-as-you-think-it-is" kind of stuff. But this is obviously very serious at some level or another.
