A while ago I received an email from my host reporting that a spammer had gained access to my system and was using it to send out spam emails.

As a result of this all my email is now either filtered as spam by the likes of yahoo, hotmail, gmail, or rejected by corporate networks. This happens for any address from my servers IP address.

One such rejection notice I received when emailing a corporate network advised me to forward the message onto bigfish.com to be removed from the blacklist, which I have done.

I have 2 questions, first how do I completely remove myself from all blacklists and get my good name back? Will removing myself from one remove me from all?

Second, how can I detect that my server is being abused in future and prevent this from happening?

Many of the "blacklist" facilities record open relays for relatively short period, unless reporting continues.
Therefore, if you've cleared up the issue, it should resolve itself in time - perhaps only a couple of weeks.

Take a look at composite blocking list [cbl.abuseat.org] and check if you're on the block list.
