After Taking Over a Website

What are the first things you'd do?

Okay, I know this is going to be different for all sites and industries, but I'm thinking more generally.

I may be buying a website. I've had the privelidge of checking the site stats already, and 404 error pages account for a high % of entry and exit pages. This got me thinking about what I should do once I take over.

Here's what I have listed on my 'Things to do' list.

Check for broken links.
Check for orphaned pages.
Check non reciprocated links.
Add/Amend robots.txt file.
Add/Amend .htaccess file.
Spell check pages.
Reduce/compress graphics.
Setup Google Analytics for site.

Anyone got any other ideas?

maybe he attracted a load of links, and then went and moved the pages. so check your referrers. if they are pointing at non-existant pages then set up a redirect quick so you can still get the benefit. be a shame to waste of a load of links.
