First of all, is there a difference between a "forum" and a "board"?

I am trying to figure out if I should register xyzForum.com or xyzBoard.com. What do you think is the best?

I would be running something like vbulletin for the software.

Personally, forum I think implies more discussion threads, whereas board implies more announcement style posts.

But, technically, the two are synonyms.

If you are going to have a simple place for people to discuss a very limited number of topics, I'd use "board". If multiple topics and or a larger structure of "sub-" sections, I'd use "forum".

WebmasterWorld is a forum to me.
A product support area is a board to me.

True, but the board can also have discussions on it.
