I've noticed that a few trolls visiting my political blog use proxy services to do so. ONe of them is called freetorproxy.

My site stats are clearly picking up the person's IP address. So how is the proxy service anonymizing their visit? Or does someone use this for a diff. reason?

Just curious why people who don't like yr site would use this service. Or is their a legit reason for someone using this service?

You may be seeing a Tor exit node. Tor is onion routing and anonymous by nature. You won't be able to trace the user's original IP unless you have some serious resources.

Anonymity emboldens people to do things they normally wouldn't.

Why? Most likely they are accessing from a location that blocks your site.

Since these trolls have previously published comments at my blog using these IP addresses along w. their names, I know who they are.

It seems counter productive to use a proxy service fr. an IP which you've previously used to publish a comment at someone's blog. But hey, some trolls aren't very bright I guess. Or else it's just habitual to use the proxy service even though they've uncovered their own anonymity.
