Hi all, as a new member I look forward to reading and helping out on these forums.

I have a question regarding a client of mine. He currently has a website, which, to my knowledge, is using a Microsoft SQL server database (it said on the first line of the database backup, in notepad) for a CMS system.

The client wishes that I take over the hosting, so i have requested a back up of the website on CD, aswell as the latest database backup.

My hosting company has the ability to setup a Microsoft SQL server via the control panel, giving me full control over the db name, username and password.

Once the new databse is setup, how would I go about 'importing' the old database?

Is there anything else that I need from my client, or that i need to carry out?

This is the first time I have migrated a site employing a database (i have very little knowledge of databases) so I'm trying to make the transition as smooth as I can!

Any advice gratefully received,

Best Regards

Andy

Hi andygmd and welcome to WebmasterWorld.

MS likely has some documentation regarding how this might be accomplished as it is a common task. A quick search over the Microsoft site turns up this article on SQL Server 2000 Backup and Restore [microsoft.com].

Also, you might find better support for your database questions in the WebmasterWorld Databases Forum [webmasterworld.com]. I know there are a few members in there that are MS SQL Server mindful.
