I have just started running a music website which is dedicated to unsigned and independent musicians. I tried with myspace bot but it didnt bring any valuable visitors.

So my strategy has changed to start email marketing - send emails to them, now I am wondering where can I get/buy a mailing-list of the targeted users (ie unsigned and independent musicians on myspace&facebook).

I need help from all you marketing gurus, thanks!

Individual musicians have an annoying habit of being out playing gigs rather than surfing the web.

Start by identifying appropriate hardcopy publications and websites and send out press releases.

Why are you focusing on strategies that annoy people? Do you think that's likely the most successful strategy?

You're asking the wrong question.
The right question (or at least a better question) is: "how can I market my new website for signed and unsigned musicians?"
Try that one.
Because the answer is not becoming a spammer.
If you want to use these kinds of tactics, you'd better be good at them, because plain old boring vanilla spamming won't get you very far.

On the other hand, you could visit the link building forum or the content forum (hint: link building and content creation will be far better for the long-term prospects of your website than spamming); the marketing forum, etc.
Just a suggestion.

It should be pretty easy for you to market your site to your audience, as unsigned bands and musicians generally want and need publicity. Rather than email, I would concentrate on viral word-of-mouth tactics. Find out where those bands play, make some flyers and leave them there. If your site is good, people will pass the message along. Probably cheaper than buying targeted (i.e. fully opted in) email lists. Banner advertising on social networking sites could also end up being cheaper, if you go via a network and not directly.
