Netcraft Risk Rating

Where do they get their info?

I've just started a new site a few weeks ago and noticed that the Netcraft gives it a maximum risk rating.

I've tried to look up what determines Netcraft's ratings, and it seems to be three main things:

-Is the site new?

-Is the domain at a registrar used by phishers?

-Is the site involved with phishing?

My site is new, but the registrar is one of the really huge ones that everyone uses. A large proportion of websites in general use this registrar.

And the site definitely isn't involved with phishing or anything else for that matter, in fact there's not really any content on it at all yet.

Does Netcraft just assume that all new sites are dangerous and assign them the maximum risk rating automatically? That seems very unfair, but I can't see any other explanation.

Anyone have any idea if this situation will correct itself?

I would not trust that info too much, they want you to use their products.

Just visited it, where from did you get your info?

I do not see anything mentionning "risk"?

They have an anti-phishing toolbar used to report sites, and it has a risk-rating bar that looks a lot like the pagerank bar on the Google toolbar. Look lower on their homepage for the toolbar, or along the left column.

They claim to have detected 155,000+ phishing sites, and have a feed to alert ISPs. Who can then disable access to your site....

Sounds like a good idea, but is it working, and is anyone being wrongly slammed? Maybe if we all download the toolbar and report Hotmail as a phishing site it will go away?!? Kind of like googlebombing....

And the Netcraft Toolbar gets flagged as Spyware by my software. Go figure...
