connection between Google, Alexa and Internet Archieve

Hi! I just stumbled onto some information that suggested that google and alexa are connected in some way i.e. like in a partnership of some sort. I personally doubt that but am wondering what the real nature of the connection between all these engines is? I mean do they share resources or what?

And then there is dogpile that seems like a great idea but does it have a deal with all the search engines to beable to put results from all of them for a search word together? what rights or permission does it have as far as resoruces from all the search engines go?

As far as I thought google was supporting other engines..like AOL. Is there more to the story?

Thanks Corey! the link is really good! solves most of my problem in trying go figure out who helps who and how! But i still dont understand how dogpile works.

i also have another question, what good would it be to start a search engine of your own using the alexa search engine tool? i suppose it could be handy for a community or small public utility but it cant be too good and obviously will not be in any sort of competition with the established engines already there, right?

besides alexa is not quite a search engine itself right? so why would anyone use that tool?

I don't use Alexa myself. I usually use Iwon (which is powered by ask.com) and Copernic.

As far as starting one - a lot of people create new directories every day. But creating a search engine, it would take a lot of hard work to do that.
