I remember growing up, I had no idea what my father did, because he was a medicare reimbursement consultant, and if you don't work in the industry, it is really meaningless.
When asled. what do you tell people that you do?
Like jessejump says, "I do websites, go to example.com, I did that."
For someone genuinely interested, web developer, programmer, designer, Internet marketer, and all-around Internet problem solver. At which point I usually get "yeah, my cousin does that, you should go to myamateursite.com, he's really great."
Or if it's someone that really gets under my skin, I point them to one of my first ugly, horrible zero-budget three-page sites. Buh bye! :-)
