I have two questions:
1)How come in the title (tag) of my Internet Explorer it reads the name of my Internet Provider? Is that just because the router has it's software on it and displays that automatically on my browser?(I moved out and am now using another internet connection than before, where i hadnt noticed this). Or does my internet provider know what I'm doing and where I'm surfing just as my browser does?
if so, I assume that they arent allowed to disclose that information away to anyone, right? (unless my country has a very unordinary law system...or unless I'd be doing illegal stuff, which I'm not)
2)Is it possible to create a website and have it displayed in only certain countries/ have it NOT displayed in one/some countries? (my bet is no..)
Thx guys
P.S.: Can Anyone recommend a good book/free source on the net about the technical basics of the Internet(+Servers)?
You can find this by searching your registry for the ISP name, and then editing the registry key(s) to remove the ISP name or remove it.
For more information, try searching for phrases related to customizing or branding Internet Explorer.
Your new ISP does indeed know every URL you visit. Depending on your country's laws and the ISP's policies, they may or may not do anything with that data. This data is usually archived, and always available to law enforcement for some period of time.
2) It is possible through server configuration and/or scripting to restrict the accessibility of your site, but it rather violates the 'spirit' of the World-Wide-Web. If you're determined to do it, try a search on GeoIP.

as for 1) In other words, the name of my internet provider in my title doesn't mean the internet provider will get any data from me b/c of that, they just put their name there, right?
Actually..I didnt install that computer (a friend did) and my only concern is that Im living in a relative's house whos overseas at the moment using their internet connection...and well....I dont want them to have any possible access to seeing what sites I surfed or whatever...so Im just wondering if theres any possibility of somebody else (who has the same internet connection as myself) getting any data about what Im doing - w/o having my PC of course ;-).
I assume the only chance of that happening would be if a)I did anything illegal (which i dont) or b)them getting information from the internet provider about what 'has been going on' on their internet connection, but then again: Is this technically possible or can you only see that when you have the actual PC? (my bet is either its technically not possible or it's irrelevant as it'd be a bunch of effort, which nobody will do unless they suspect me of..whatever ;)).
Another question I have, that i just remembered...I like to cancel the list of websites + history of sites ive viewed, etc. (call me paranoid, im just like that...lol). however for over a year or so i had a few adresses stuck that i couldnt seem to delete. For example I can type in the beginning of google's domain and after clearing history, cookies + toolbar(exp.?) multiple times it still says:"www.google.com/(searchqueryaboutmedicalcondition)".
Any idea why that is the way it is?
thx
