Many, many years ago I did small back ups on floppy disks, then moved to ZIP disks, then to CD roms before now backing up onto external hard drives.

My question is how do you best get rid of the old back ups? Some contain confidential information.

I no longer have a floppy disk drive, nor the ZIP drive and do not need any of the CD roms any more.

I have been cleaning out my office and I came across them and think that they are a waste of space, and are no longer needed.

Can I burn them? is that safe? Any suggestions?

Break them in half...

Many professional-grade shredders or guillotine-style paper-cutters will handle them.

Or you can try microwaving them (one at a time!) for five seconds or so.
