Each visitor gives 5 hits on every page

For every page viewed, 5 hits show up - eating bandwith!

For some reason every visitor that comes to my site, my stats page will say that the visitor visited 1 page but there were 5 hits.

This has the result that instead of using about 10kb of bandwith (size of each page), each visitor will use about 50kb of bandwith for every page viewed! This quickly adds up.

Anybody have any idea why this is?

Well a 'hit' is everytime a file is retrieved from the server. For example an HTML page is one hit and if there are four images on the page then that is another four hits.
