How do I create a text link that causes an action only?

I would like to include a link in my text based email newsletter that sends a signal to my page counter, but doesn't open a web page or the mailto:.

Object is to let the reader inform me if they got the email - but not distract them from the reading.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Thanks

when you send the mail that means you sended the plain text/html tags that means you cant use any SSI there.
so there is no chance that you may track him/her anyways you can use the another idea like populer website counter they use the javascript and the use can see the counter image like
i am not still sure about.... and didnt tested that yet

thanks

IF and only if you use html you can create an image tab (1x1 pixel) that sends a signal to a server side page - e.g. the image url is set to a page on your site, triggering the read receipt.
