Hi...is there a way to update or replace existing youtube videos with better more updated versions. These videos represent a "brand" and have many embeds and links to them..so i do not want to remove the clips but i have newly filmed better footage...is there a way to replace the old and if not how should i approach the addition of the new and improved content...thanks

Hi Robert...thanks for getting back...I have used that editor before and it is fun...but not what i need....I need to switch out the complete video with a new updated version...but this seems not possible...so will just upload the new version and hope those linked to the video will update the link. thanks though

Well, I imagine you could insert a new video in front of the old one and then delete the old one. Technically I can't see why that wouldn't work. SEO-wise, however, it may not work great if YouTube dings the video because of the changes (I am totally guessing here). I imagine that YouTube will reevaluate the video.

For example, last weekend I edited the information (not the video itself) on a series of closely related videos and created a playlist for them.

One video that previously ranked well for a particular keyword (video appeared on first page of Google proper) fell out of the video entries on Google proper and was replaced by another video (not mine).

Maybe it will bounce back.

Okay, my idea above won't work.

In YouTube there are two places you can edit videos.

One is "Enhancements" where you can trim the video, stabilize, change fill light, other visual effects and add audio. When you save it, the changes are saved to the ORIGINAL video.

The other way to edit is using "Video Editor." The only way to get there is to click "Video Manager" and then the "Video Editor" tab. In the Video Editor you can combine 2 or more of your previously uploaded videos into 1 video but Video Editor always creates a NEW video.

You can't add a video to a previous video (or replace the previous video with another video) and then save it to the old video. When you combine 2 or more videos, the result is always a NEW video. (Bummer.)

BTW, the video mentioned above that previously ranked well but fell out of the SERPs after I added additional Tags, is back on page one of the "Everything" SERPs. It's actually in a bit higher position, it was third of the three videos shown but now it's the second of the three videos shown in the #9 spot on page 1.
