We want YouTube to be the best place to upload video. Without question, the number one requested feature by our creators is to upload videos longer than 10 minutes. We’ve heard you, and today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve increased the upload limit to 15 minutes.

This is excellent news, ten minutes was just too short for some videos.

Only problem is how long the videos are going to take to upload now. If only I lived in Japan....

Yeah, I think this is a great news, but my question is how some people could upload videos, that are about 40 mins long or more?

It's still too short; most movies are around 110 minutes.

There aren't many movies that are 110 minutes long and not covered by copyright. The copyright holders (along with those who have done careful restorations on classic material out of copyright) definitely can make arrangements to get that material up onto YouTube if they'd like.

There aren't many movies that are > 20 minutes long and not covered by copyright. E.g. 1/2 hour TV programs. Keep it under that and you solve a lot of issues.

Ah but your point is still valid, there are lots of video publishers who would probably use YouTube for good quality content distribution but cannot because of the time restrictions. Myself included.

Have you been to Youtube before or just had it described to you? There are plenty of shows/movies on there, they are just broken up into parts.

Ex: Copyrighted Show (Part 1 of 3)

Increasing the time will make uploading these shows easier of course, but it's already being done.

If you are ecommerce and your vid is > than 2 minutes you've lost your audience. If you are a bamboozle scammer your infomercial needs to be 22 minutes. If you are a clever video producer with no agent, or money, then 4 minutes is sufficient, and if Nobel quality 5 minutes will ger 'er done.

Nothing wrong with Youtube, everything wrong with copyright theft, and worse: the most egregious in that regard are well-meaning idiots who just want to "share"...

That said, 15 minutes of "home movies" makes me cringe exactly the same way I did during the 8mm home movies my Aunts and Uncles and My Family Too used to make us watch during family gatherings.
