But where is the need for this? you have a mac, you have video editing software OEM, you have win every version after xp has came with video editing software as well.

Also, the new iPhones will have video editing software built in.

crap lets find a way everyone can do this on OUR servers so we can eliminate client computers and have everyone totally dependant on an internet connection and our servers!

really that is their end goal, nobody has a computer with any processing power and if you don't have an internet connection you can't do anything.

the fully cloud model was cool when people ran 286 computers but this isn't 1985 goog, no matter how much you want it to be intel and AMD keep pumping out faster and faster processors and if you think everyone is just going to drop a great desktop with power to spare for a lame web based cloud, you are drunk on your own kool aid. Eric S has bounced around from company to company but he finally found a raft that has money to burn and her sure is burning it!

For those of us that don't own editing software this is an exciting prospect. It's allowing amateurs to improve their video output with minimal outlay.

I've been playing around with video quite a lot this year and noticed a few websites have already started giving its users online video editing facilities, but like nearly all video editing software, is all abit inadequate.

Proper video editing software is so expensive, so I would love youtube to build a professional video editing experience, able to sync multiple tracks of audio and video and mixing them in to a single steam.

Blender is free, open source and, pretty advanced.

This is an interesting start for Goog, but I wouldn't look at it till it allows multiple tracks, fades and ability to smoothly cut any segment from a vidio or audio track.

Interesting re making it far easier to add music without copyright worries.

For anyone who's watched digital video editing evolve, this primitive online editor is an amazing step... and for a great many kids and amateur users, it opens a whole new world.

Ditto, but I think that may take a while. Fades and dissolves and video layers, multiple tracks, etc, while necessary in even an advanced amateur editing system, can start getting incredibly resource and storage intensive. For many years, videos with effects or layers needed to be pre-rendered before you could preview an edit. The computing power to create these effects didn't exist in most desktop machines.

I imagine that offering professional level video editing on any mass scale would be very expensive, and I think it will be a long time before that might be available for free. I hope to be surprised.

I wish the presentation video wasn't so narcissistically hammy. It also would be nice to have some very basic specs... like how many shots you can import into the editor.

YouTube should make The Onion video required viewing. ;)
