Hulu is becoming the preferred distribution channel for the big media companies. And it is succeeding in attracting the fickle Web audience. This should worry YouTube, which is still casting about for a business model that will pay for its enormous storage and bandwidth costs. The media companies cannot ignore YouTube just yet, but by strengthening Hulu they can give it their best content first.

On other note, the investment seems with the fact that G owns youtube if G would not have, they may have opted for it, you never know. Why to make strong company much stronger in the area where they have all good content.
Youtube is getting more and more censored by the day anyway. The freedom of speech of the internet is being clamped down more and more.
Censored? Or finally dealing with all the DCMAs against unauthorized product... ie. copyright infringement. That's a different subject covered elsewhere so won't go into it here.
The only thing i noted is its currently streamed in to US only and as soon as it detected i am browsing from other country i was greeted with pop up saying thank you for interest it can only be streamed in US at this time please provide your email and location (box) and registered for interest.
i don't think it would continue to make sense, as they will start streaming bollywood films
