...LiquidTV will let consumers turn their Windows PC into a TiVo digital video recorder. Customers will be able to record, pause, and watch television shows on their computers like they would on a set-top TiVo box. But the PC version also enables transferring shows between computers, exporting to iPods and PlayStation Portables, and burning to DVD....

Nothing in the works for Japan yet according to the Japanese site that I can see. That would be a nice entry to the DVR market. The stand-alone DVR manufactures here have probably blocked this.

There have been some DVRs available for the Mac for a few years now, the most popular one is EyeTV.

I just purchased an EyeTV for my iMac. I highly recommend it. It looks especially good with my cable's HD channels.
