converting VOB to AVI or MPEG

i have a video from a client and they want me to put it on their website. but i want to edit it in windows movie maker. but i cant pull vob in WMM. so i download alot of trial versions of software that were suppose to convert it but it seems like it only did part about 20 seconds of the video.

am i doing something wrong or can any tell me of a software that will work?

Did you try VOB2MPG?

Sometimes due to the nature of the DVD, the mpg's are split up into "chapters" or sections that create multiple mpgs and you have to re-unite them into a single movie.

Install and run FFMPEG, it's free and a very powerful tool.

Just looking at the documentation and you would need something along the lines of this....

ffmpeg -i client_video.vob -f avi -vcodec mpeg4 -b 800k -g 300 -bf 2 -acodec libmp3lame -ab 128k client_video.avi

The best tool for doing ripping DVD's I ever used was DVD Decrypter... if you can find it. Vob2mpg works well too but the last time I used it you just got one big file as it just ripped the entire disc to single file. With DVD decrypter you can rip title sets or even chapters.
