Here's an interesting one: Sue your advertisers because they have agreed to "boycott" the site.

Elon Musk's X/Twitter is suing a group of advertisers and major companies, accusing them of unlawfully agreeing to "boycott" the site.

It has filed a claim against the food giants Unilever and Mars, private healthcare company CVS Health, and renewable energy firm Orsted - along with a trade association called the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) - in a Texas court.

X claims they have deprived it of "billions of dollars" in revenue.

Legal experts say the case is unlikely to succeed as any collusion or agreement between companies will be hard to prove.

ICYMI:
“I hope they stop. Don’t advertise. If somebody is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money, go f*** yourself. Go f*** yourself. Is that clear? I hope it is.”

There is a copy of his comments towards advertisers on YouTube, [youtu.be...] and here's my take on that...

Your Honor, the Defense would like to enter as Exhibit A, Elon Musk's own words: " Go f**k yourself" Defense rests.

Yep, that just doesn't sit well, imho. He shoots from the hip without thinking.
He's a danger to his own businesses, and i'm surprised the investors haven't put pressure on him to be the head tech guy, and not a spokesperson.

for everyone that hates him shooting from the hip, there's another one who loves him. not many business leaders are a brand in their own right
tesla and spacex are doing fine, and so is X if you tune out all the people who are just sore that he's not parroting their politics

Nothing to do with politics in general, although it may affect some to leave, and some to join.

Shooting from the hip is too late, and when those people have to delete their info because it's just plain wrong doesn't look good at all. Advertisers just don't want to be associated with false info.

According to Statista, last year twitter users were down, and it predicts a similar decline in 2024. That also does not look good to advertisers.

The alleged "boycott" is going to be very very tough to prove, and only the lawyers will win, imho.

WFA disbanded GARM as soon as the suit appeared. WFA is the target, Unilever and the others listed above are also targets of colluding in the "boycott". There's something here (from exhibits I've seen regarding emails, etc) and we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Dusted off the popcorn machine!

I am not sure there is anything illegal about withdrawing advertising.
Even if a number of companies decide to do it at the same time.

I think the lawsuit is on the basis that the companies colluded.

Hi engine,

"Collusion" seems to be defined as secret cooperation, to do something illegal or dishonest ..

It isn't illegal to cease advertising with a company. Not sure he has a case.

Hi Mark_A

I think that's exactly what he's hoping to prove. It's going to be tough, i'm sure. Perhaps he has some evidence.

:: vague mental association with Humpty Dumpty ::

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

He clearly has no case, and is wasting everyone's time with this. Amusingly, since GARM members could be liable if he won, and X is a member of GARM, Elon would have to pay damages to himself if he won. It's all performative nonsense and general stupidity on Elon's part. He is no genius, just a whiny child.
