Twitter is adding a new check mark to the twitter blue check mark, and this time it's a gray check mark for "accounts that are verified as official, which is why we’re introducing the “Official" label to select accounts when we launch."

Not all previously verified accounts will get the “Official” label and the label is not available for purchase. Accounts that will receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures.

It seems to be a work-in-progress.
The new Twitter Blue does not include ID verification – it’s an opt-in, paid subscription that offers a blue checkmark and access to select features. We’ll continue to experiment with ways to differentiate between account types.

This indicates to me that the blue check mark is now significantly devalued.

That didn't last long. Musk says, "I just killed it"

I am under the impression he spent $44 billion without a plan and is just throwing things against the wall to see what sticks.

I think that is pretty much his way. I'm sure he has some ideas, such as "X"
