According to a report in recode, twitter may consider selling the business to one of the companies that are often mentioned in such circumstances, including Google, Apple, and even one of Rupert Murdoch's businesses.

Should twitter sell, and if it does, will it solve its problems?

As long as the problem can be written in 140 characters or less:)

Seriously, I think Twitter is an inovation that has always looked for a business plan. They may have taken too much time and now the oppertunities have passed, so selling may be the best bet now.

I thought that Twitter were going to increase the character limit. Anyway, I think that Google would like to buy Twitter, but would like to see the price fall before committing to any deal. It is just too expensive at the moment. Whether they can solve Twitter's problems....I don't know.

I think that twitter's biggest problem is investors expectations for it to be the "next big thing." It's not worth the valuation, but it's a useful service. What price do you put on that?

Selling the business is the startup exit strategy from day one for many of those companies. Investors might want their payout before Twitter becomes next years MySpace.

There's been a rumor of a coming crash in Silicon Valley, resulting in many startups re-focusing on how they spend their money and on how they earn it.
