Periscope No Longer Requires a Twitter Account

Twitter's fresh, new, live streaming video app Periscope, no longer requires a twitter account, just a phone number to get started. Twitter still recommends an account, of course.

I wonder if that's to increase usage more rapidly. I would have thought they'd stick with the twitter account at this early stage, or if they are going to make it a requirement at a later date.

They are probably banking on explosive growth at this point, there are a lot of streaming options and a lot of deep pockets involved. When companies like Amazon start buying sites like Twitch you know that streaming is going to be hugely profitable, eventually.
