Updating or writing new post

Hello,

I had made a blogpost in 2008 which list websites that allows downloading of free widget(example). This post still receives around 20K pageviews per month mostly from google. Its been long and lot of new websites have come up which allows downloading of widgets.
From SEO point of view what is better, updating this blogpost or writing new post (part 2)?

Not knowing the url makes this more of a guess.

If the url has no date aspect within it I would update the 2008 article and leave it at the old url. Post a copy of the old article at a new url with a link back to the updated article.

If the url does have a date aspect within it I would 301 redirect that url to the updated version of the article at a new url.

I think should update the old one, and make a new post also, within the new post you should mention the fact that you updated the old one

I think you should Write new posts and write unique good quality content for your posts.

I would write original posts of between 400 and 1500. Old posts with no quality content I would either rewrite,delete or noindex.
