use of smileys and special characters in Meta description

Hey,

I have found a website with smiley used in their Meta description. Thats really looking nice but will it help to improve the CTR of the website in SERP. The keyword that I have used is "<snip>" and the website was <snip>. Do let me know will it be useful in increasing the CTR . The website was ranking some where in 30 - 60

are you the same person who has been asking this question on lots of other forums?

It may help if you are attracting young users, but if your in the finance sector, expect a negative result.

Thanks for the reply briggidere and yes I'm the one but it has been wrongly misinterpreted and i got a lot at my back as reply. I mainly want to know whether it would help me to increase the CTR. I can get that now. :)

Please take a moment to think about it.

If I am going to trust someone to deal with my finances, do I really want someone who puts smiley faces in the description? I don't think so. I want a professional and reputable company.

Selling ringtones/horoscopes/myspace templates? Fine, give it a go. It may work in those areas. You need to think about your target market and how they will perceive your description.

It is all about your market, but I don't expect many under 18's getting approved for loans etc.

Google treated special characters or symbols in meta tags and over the pages as space (blank) like if you want to see then take a visit of spidder simulation of your site with special characters. Like if you write a page title "Widget Supplier Service - 4% Widget Services
" 4 treated as digit in google and "%" is treated as zilch and make no sense to the search engines spidders, you can use the above page title "Widget Suppliers Service - 4percent Widget Services"
