Link similar or recent articles together, throw the rest into a sitema- I mean Archive.
The benefit of the above is linking together topically relevant articles and forming clouds of relevance that reinforce each other. First off, this is useful to the users as it presents information that they may be interested in.
Secondly, search engines have traditionally understood information in terms of hiearachies and sets. Yes, there are many scoring and anti-spam variables playing a role in the overall ranking, but for the purposes of this discussion, I'm limiting my post to site architecture. Imo if it helps the search engines clarify sets of information, plus have the relevant articles reinforce each other in order to help the engines get a better idea of what the different sections of your site are about, then creating hubs and interlinking content within those hubs should be a good thing in terms of user experience and ranking. I don't care about PR distribution, it's the ranking power I'm more interested in.
