What is the purpose of fetch.tunnel.googlezip.net?

Starting in Sept 2022 with a total count so far of 62, I'm seeing hits from 72.14.201.various which is (ip).v4.fetch.tunnel.googlezip.net.

I might be seeing this fetch.tunnel.googlezip from other IP ranges, but for today I've just focused on this one.

The user-agent for these hits boil down to these:

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 10; K) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/1XX.0.0.0 Mobile Safari/537.36

(the Chrome version ranges from 105 to 120)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/113.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Just today a new one:

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/120.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

The hits grab either my site's landing page html file (usually) or an internal sub-section html file. If these IP's are proxies being used by a person's device to access or cache my site, I'm not seeing the required follow-through to download the dozen or so extra files needed to render the pages. It never asks for favicon or robots.txt

Sometimes there is no referer, but mostly the referer is www.google.com (once it was www.google.com.au).

I use infobyip to do a bulk host-name lookup on these IP's, the country of origin is also listed and shows these IP's mapping to countries all over the world (I'm not sure how this country mapping is possible given these are all in the same /24 subnet or where infobyip get's its info from).
