IP: the usual FB ranges

UA: cortex/1.0
UA: adreview/1.0

requests: generally the same image files requested by FB externalhit and similar

“cortex” first seen in March
“adreview” first seen a few days ago

I don't do facebook and don't do ads. I suppose I've got a cortex.

The best ad is no ad so you get a perfect review score. Congratulations!

I trust that your (presumed present) cortices do not suffer from Reflected XSS as does that poor crawler...
someone should inform it's owner that an upgrade has been available for a couple of years now...
I guess good healthcare is as problematic for bots as humans...

@Iamlost not everybot lives in Canada, most bots can't afford good healthcare.

Anybody seen this UA? Note end!
"Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_1) AppleWebKit/601.2.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/9.0.1 Safari/601.2.4 facebookexternalhit/1.1 Facebot Twitterbot/1.0"

Was neither a FB or Twitter IP, in fact after being 403, the visitor switched UA's to an iphone and the visits was normal.

The more I labor over my raw logs, the more certain I am that only <10% are human. Yikes!

Ouroboros is likely to be a real entity and the humans will be less than gnats in the feeding frenzy!

Which raises the spectre of bots eating bots ... how will google and bing and the rest make money from mechanical ghosts?

Where's Linda Hamilton when you need her?

Oh, yes, I recognize that. Have been seeing it very sporadically for a few years, but have never figured out what it is or what it's for. Lately it seems especially fond of apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png (a file I happen to have, so can't say what it would request otherwise). Mostly it's page + apple-touch-icon; much less often the full set of images associated with a page.

I tentatively think it's some kind of utility attached to human computers, whether intentionally or otherwise. The Accept-Language header varies with the file being requested, for example "en-ca" for a page that's of particular interest to Canadians, but always just one term instead of a whole string of them. (Admittedly, most humans' list of accepted languages isn't as long as mine, but non-mobile browsers do usually list a few variants.)

I have it down as the iOS 10+ iMessages app preview engine.

If memory serves there has been unanswered bewilderment as to why it seems cloaked in FB and Twitter.

That really belongs in its own thread. It's not connected to Facebook, I'm sure.

It's not connected to Facebook, I'm sure.
Nor yet to Twitter. But I agree with you.
