SEO best practice to rank for Keyword

Hey Folks.

I have a question, first time posting so apologies if this is the wrong section.

I have a website which gets around 3000 unique views daily, we have dropped a lot of organic traffic over the past 6 months, the last google update in April did not do us many favours! even though on paper we have a very SEO friendly website both off site and on site

My question is, we are looking to rank for 1 specific keyword ideally at the top of google!

Currently we rank about 20th which is awful! The keyword does not have a massive amount of competition but has a high search volume

We are looking initially to rank in the UK for this search term

As well as our own website we own the keyword domain we are looking to rank for, so lets say we are looking to rank for Brown Shoes, we own brownshoes.com and shoes.com

My question is, in order to rank for this, what would be the best step forward for these domains?

Forward them to my blog on my 3000+ views website
Create a mini website with unique content linking to my main website?
Create a completely unique ecom website for this keyword which handles payments / orders

Looking forward to your replies

Welcome to Webmasterworld!

Chasing a single keyword can be a long drawn out process. Think avenues outside the web, such as radio, newspapers, word of mouth, but at the same time make logical and reasonable links with content that compliments the effort. Anything approaching black hat or paid links will likely fail.

Can't advise regarding a separate ecom ... why would you split potential traffic with two choices?

Thank you, we are in a reasonably Niche industry so chasing single keywords is something that has done us well over the last 5-6 years.
We do PPC/Socials but are not looking to add any media (radio) into our paid advertising

Why would you split traffic? to answer your question, well i guess i dont want too, i would rather drive traffic to my main website however I am wondering what would be the easiest way to achieve the number 1 spot in google, by driving more traffic to my website or by creating a website named after the keyword i am trying to rank for

Actually no one can give you guarantee for #1 spot on Google. If any one is giving this guarantee means he is planning to cut your pocket nothing more. Real company will always give you top 10 or 20 ranking guarantee after few months of works.

Secondly you are saying easiest, So want to say that if you are thinking about easiest then according to me its impossible. If you are in good niche market then you have to work hard to get good position.
