Is a site penalized by if I shut it down for some months?

Hi,

If I close a website (shut down the hosting!) for some months and then I reactivate it... will the site be recovered with the original SEO?

Google will tconsider it as a NEW FRESH site? Or it will "remember" the original rankings?

Thanks,

Shutting the site down for months would be flirting with danger, SEO-wise.

I wouldn't exactly call it a penalty but your SEO would be harmed if other webmasters who are linking to you notice that the site is down and remove the links. The more links lost, the greater the harm.

If you need to have an outage make it as short as you possibly can.

Leaving a site running, even with no new updates, would be preferable to shutting it down or more than a few days (72 hours).

Something to consider.
