Moderator, sorry if this is in the wrong subforum.

My DIY design site had unusual low traffic yesterday. It caters to both small business and individuals in general.
A comparison to last year was not relevant, as 4th July was in a Saturday last year.

Anyone else got unusually low traffic yesterday?

Er... You're not in the US, are you?

It was interesting that even the e-mail spam levels were down.

@engine That's a good one. Did you get low US traffic too?

I was very happy with the e-mail spam being lower.
Generally, traffic was down, however, it is holiday time for many, too, so i'm not too troubled unless it continues. The northern hemisphere is probably taking advantage of the better weather.

Let me Google that for you [lmgtfy.com].

My US traffic yesterday was about the same as the Sunday before.

Of course not.

Well, if you hadn't happened to use the term "DIY" it wouldn't have been quite so of-course.

But really ... a Monday in the summer, anything can happen. ("Er, what do you mean there's no July bank holiday? Whooops!")

@rlopes: did you traffic return on Tuesday or Wednesday?

@tangor it's still lower than usual. Has the summer holiday there already started?

Depends on what you mean by "summer" and "holiday".

Many schools are out for the summer.

This past weekend was a "four day" for most, meaning they took both Friday and Monday as well.

July (front 2 weeks) is a popular time for office workers to take two weeks and travel. The second most popular time is the last two weeks of July. August has a first three week period as families stay close to home that last week since kids are getting ready to return to school.

If you traffic relies on USA and younger demographics, summer lags a bit compared to the rest of the year.

Thanks @tangor, I got a clear picture now.

It's also worth noting that, in general, European holiday time can stretch the end of June through to the end of August. Obviously, not everyone is away for all that time. University students are off from June, and then Schools from late July through August.

People are online on mobile these days while they are mobile, but they may do different things from web browsing. They will be using their smartphone for social media interaction, and using apps to interact with services, and many will be skirting "the web entirely."

Hope that helps.

Good points @engine. Another reason why I hate holidays...
