Yahoo edged out others in becoming Mozilla's default U.S. search in Firefox [webmasterworld.com], and now it and Bing will vie for Apple's Safari default search, according to reports.

Apple's contract with Google, which implements Google's search engine as the default in Apple's Safari browser, is expiring next year, according to The Information's Amir Efrati.

Yahoo and Microsoft have already started pitching Eddy Cue, Apple's SVP of internet products and services, on the idea of replacing Google with their respective search engines, sources have told Efrati.

Of course, the more strength to Yahoo's bow will mean it is in a stronger position when it's deal with Microsoft's Bing ends in 2019. Of course, it's not just about the deal expiring then, it's about the U.S. revenue-per-search guarantee, which was only renewed last year.

sounds like a great idea, if apple can pull its long standing stick up its backside out.

which led to its getting in bed with goooooog which led to...well you know.. ANDROID.
