List of 200 links on a sidebar

I have a network of 200 Wordpress blogs, and each of them has 200 links to all the other sites on a sidebar (rel="nofollow"). I am getting some traffic to the other sites, but I am not sure if I am not getting penalized by Google (and other search engines), and what kind of effect does it have on SEO performance of my sites (out of 200, only about 15 is within first 100 pages of Google, websites are regularly updated etc). It looks like something is weighting on the sites down, and I am wondering if it is not the sidebar with links.

How do you manage to maintan 200 sites with regards to the content? This means you would need to post on 7 sites per day to only have 1 post per site per month.

Maybe this is the angle you should be looking at?

There is 2-3 people adding blog posts every day.

I know that the list of links is not very good for SEO. What would be the best way to keep it in place, and get around the issue at the same time? Make a list of links in Flash, make an iframe and set it to <meta robots="noindex, nofollow"> (I can't set individual links to noindex, the command works only with a meta tag)?

If the links are nofollowed there should be no fear of a penalty of any sort from an SE.

But I really have to question the purpose: Which one of your visitors is going to read a list of 200 links? Why the heck are the links there?

And how much of your page weight is links as opposed to content?

And if you have to resort to tricks to mask the links then it's probably better to get rid of them.

Great questions by jimbeetle....

You could be creating some issues for yourself by having such a high percentage of similar content page to page... By removing that giant list of (useless?) links, you will increase the percentage of unique content on each page.
