Subdomains x Subdirectories/folders

Hi folks,

This is a stressed theme, but I´m relatively new to SEO and had never faced such chalenge untill now.

The question is: Does the subdomain transfer relevance to domain like a subdirectory/folder does?

I´m facing a problem with a blog: putting it on subdomain (and suposing this blog is really weel linked to) will this juice be transfered to my domain as if it was on a folder?

I´d like feedbacks from who had used both and had measured them.

If you choose a 301 the link juice will be transferred from folder to sub domain. Please note 100% link juice will not be transferred and you will loose some of it (As per Mr. Matt Cutts). You need to develop more links for your subdomain to maintain your previous position.

Thanks, but this is not my question in fact...

Shoud I choose a folder or a subdomain? I want that all incomming juice be kept on domain (www.example.com) and spread sitewide.

I know that a folder that receives juice transfer it all over domain. Does the same happen when the juice hits the subdomain?

although this doesn't answer your precise question, it implies that there is little difference between subdomains and subdirectories since subdomains are now categorized and reported as internal links in GWT.

i am guessing there are still cases where a subdomain looks and acts like an autonomous site and google is capable of treating it as such.

As far as my experience tell me, subdomains do not add any extra value. They are considered the same as a directory under main site, because that's what they really are.

subdomains do not pass value to the main domain the way subfolders do... since Panda update it is suggested to put all your low quality content on a subdomain - this will improve the overall health of a domain.

and the root domain is not passing 100% of its value to a subdomain... as opposed to subfolder.. so if you want better rankings under a trusted domain - go for subfolder!
