I faced the same choice once. It was in the heyday of blogs when everybody had one and it was sort of cool to jump on the bandwagon, sort of like Facebook and Twitter today.

I chose to call it a blog (example.com/blog/...) because people seeing it would know to expect that it would contain a hodgepodge of articles/blog entries not necessarily related to each other and organized only by date. That seemed a good choice because I myself didn't know in advance what I'd end up writing about.

In hindsight, I sort of wished I'd called them articles, except that I wouldn't have known in advance how to categorize them. As it turned out, I only publish a few a year (not blog-like), they are thousands (sometimes thousands and thousands) of words long, represent weeks or months of research, and usually have little to do with my day-to-day activities. So when people see /blog/ in the URL, they might think the material is lighter and less technical than what they find when they get there.

For SEO, I don't think it really matters, and there's no way I would reorganize them into a different structure now. I don't consider it a wrong decision, but if I'd known in advance what the contents were going to be, I might have done it differently.

I did not (and personally would not) use a blog CMS. The "blog" pages are static just like "articles" would have been.

Anyway, maybe those are some things that might factor into your decision.

Hey Steve, That is great insight. I would definitely consider that. My real concern is blog style definitely would look like a more timely and also kinda conversational with comments but if without those two it may seem like quite a barren place. But I do like the possibility of having guest bloggers which is why I am a little inclined to having a blog. That way invited people with authority on certain topics can share something. I also find articles in blogs kinda buried deeper that if it were called articles or tutorials. although one thing I must say that articles does sound like it is very much a SEO strategy and not so much for users and the writing would have to be more formal.

Well I would really to know if there are any negative or positive effects of a blog versus a article section SEO wise. This is one of the reasons why it is created for after all.

The best idea to increase content on your website is to have contents written on the pages itself. For all the products you can have suitable some limited but enough to get the SEO benefit for that page.

Now If you want it to be done by adding a different section like article or blog, In my opinion blog would be the best as its syndication mechanism is great. The same can blog can be used to publish articles on a topic that can give your visitors information about a particular product of yours. Since the blog posts (specially of blogger) are syndicated within some minute after the publish it start showing in blog search of google.

If you use internal linking for your products within the blog content it may give you some anchor link benefit and you may rank well in SERP for that specific term.

You should only consider guest posting if you have time to review the post or you know the guest very well as a poor content in no way gives you anything and you may loose readers as well.
