Simply got me thinking is it possible to calculate ROI for a website for which the revenue is based on ads? Or is it possible to project how much traffic a site would be getting in a specific period of time before it is launched.

There's a lot of ad revenue based sites out there making $0 per month.

Assuming you have some killer content you may rank, but rank for what it the question.

Unless you manage to get in the top 10 position for some killer keywords and/or have a viral campaign that drives tons of traffic, it's pretty worthless.

Simple. Divide total ad revenue of the internet by the number of websites. Now subtract your fixed and variable expenses. There. ROI.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I think it would be extremely tough to determine how a particular website would do ahead of time in this dynamic and competitive market. Throw your line in the water ... maybe you'll catch a fish, maybe you'll just feed the sharks.
