I'm wondering what the thoughts are on having a place on one's Web site to collect email addresses for the purpose of marketing to prospective customers?

It seems like a great idea to me but I see many e-commerce sites not doing it.

Are there a bunch of Web site owners out there that don't know the value of collecting email addresses or is my opinion of it being a great idea off the mark?

you need to mention this in your "Terms of use" page that you collect and share email address to third party

I realize that it needs to be mentioned in the Terms of use page and that was not my question. Nor did I say anything about sharing with a third party.
