Will Optimizing for Keyword Phrase Boost Single Word SERP?

I have a certain site in which I was optimizing for "blue widgets" (rather than "red widgets" or "green widgets"), now I have noticed that my site is ranking very well for the single word "widgets" (second page).

My question is, is, will targeting the two word phrase "blue widgets" naturally bring up the "widgets".

While doing any proper SEO can increase the ranking of any content within it and since a lot of your SEO efforts also include the keyword you are seeing the indirect increase on this keyword is normal.

Even though your keyword is "blue widgets", your also conveying to the Big Cheese G, that "blue" and "widgets" are important to you as well.

So, in the end, "blue", blue widgets" and "widgets" are all winners.

Yes, because SERPs based on key-phrase and keyword variation. Not only on keyword.

Definitely yes, 2-3-4 words phrases will help the 1 word keyword in them as finally they are also getting optimized to some extend. Though ranking would depend largely on the competition in that niche
