Good morning everyone,

We have two newspaper websites online.

We want to increase the pageview per visitor.

Under the news story, what would you place: Similar News stories from the past or Today's top stories?

The question is in a new website are people more likely to click on similar news or today's top stories?

Thank you

Today's Top Stories is the obvious choice. I think most people will prefer it

I think it's safe to say that most news sites include both. Placement varies, but you can't know the user's intent, and so offering multiple choices can improve usability (and thereby increase pageviews).

Likely you want to cater for both people interested in the topic of the post (via related links) and those interested in more general subject matter (top stories).

I would encourage you to adjust the placement based on trying to understand your visitors - emphasise the things that your audience is actively looking for.
