Hi All,

I have a site and want to move it from blogger.com to a wordpress installation running my own server. I don't want to mess up the search engine rankings I already have though. I found that I can change the permalink structure in wordpress to match the blogger.com style, this way URL's will carry over. It runs like this:

www.myblog.com/2008/01/post-title-here.html

Do you think any other factors will cause issues though?

Many thanks in advance,
Mike

your rankings should drop at first but once your usin the same domain it should pick back up

Ya. you may experience a drop in ranking. I am not sure that you would regain that rank because www.you.blogspot.com is not going to be recognised as any part of www.you.com in the case you get the domain name the same (Very rare chance)

Changing wordpress permalinks to blogger style will give you no assurance that your PR will be passed. Better stick with blogger. If you want a domain name then order it through google.

Shifting poses a serious risk

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the response. Sorry, I should have specified, the blog is already running on a custom domain. I would move the dns so the domain points to the new IP to launch it, absolute URL's, i.e. www.my-blog.com/2008/10/random-post.html, will be the same. The content of the page will vary a bit, but the core content won't, nor the URL. Still think there's a big risk in moving?

If the url's are remaining the same, you should be ok. I've seen some hiccups from time to time when there is an IP change involved, but I would suspect that you will be fine.
