Can a CMS get your site dropped from Google ?

Let's say you built a custom CMS for yourself and had 200 sites running on different servers, using that CMS. And they had good ranks everywhere. But Suddenly after a couple years You start noticing some of that CMS' sites are being dropped by google. Although i am poised not to agree to the assumption that its just because of something wrong in that CMS, but is it possible ? Or they are being dropped just due to the other "not-so-cool-now" seo techniqes ?

Or something in-between ? a mixture of Both ?

How long have they ranked for previously ? When did they start to disappear ?
Do all the pages have a common theme in the design and layout ?

They have been in the ranks moving up and down on page 1 for almost 2 years. and they have started to disappear around the start of october. Not all of them have common theme but there could be some similar design sites on a server ( but with different content)

there is only one reason I could see, your contents for those sites may be fixed or poor link building can cause major drop in rank.
