Firstly thanks for anyone who can help, and secondly I have had a good search through the forum, and while there are some similar posts they dont quite cover what i am asking here.

We have a website for our company, and for years have used our 3 letter + co Acronym for the domain name (eg www.acbco.com). We have always ranked well for both our three letters and our full company name.

Recently we have noticed competiors gaining on our full company name search term and have recently aquired our www.fullcompanyname.com

We are planning on slighly redevoloping our current site, adding a blog, a press release section and a clients area.

Where could our new domian fit into the mix so that we can increase our exposure to the "full compnay name" search term.

I was thinking of having either the news release section or company blog on the www.fullcompnayname.com.

Is it possible, or even good practive to create this sub site as a subdomain of our www.abcco.com and redirect that to the www.fullcompanyname.com. or is this asking for trouble.

Or would we be better on creating different content but industry targeted on this new domian.

To be clear again, we are after exposure for our "full company name", hopefully by having two sites rank in the top ten. The company name is far to long for us to use this as our main site.

Thanks Storm

stormed,

Welcome to webmasterworld. Enjoy.

We are planning on slightly redeveloping our current site, adding a blog, a press release section and a clients area.

That is the perfect content for the full company name domain. The two sites should support each other. Keep the acronym site as the main focus. It's working for you.

Thanks jbinbpt for the reply,

My concern is of course our fullcompanyname.com out-ranking our abcco.com site for the search term.

What would be your thoughts on moving completly to the full name, 301 the short name and really work on promoting that for both search terms.

Regards, Storm

I am a firm believer in supporting sites. I would rather have two sites in the top 5 instead of one. The danger is in duplicate content and interlinking. If you keep the functions of the domains separate it's not a problem. Use supportive, content based links and you will be fine.

The established domain is your bread and butter. Keep it going.
