is Alt description in links usefull

has any one checked the usefullnes of Alt description in links? Logically if you put it in your navigation links then it is on top of the page with good chance to help with the key words.
will appreciate comments with examples.

alt is an attribute of images, and when they're used properly in images, yes - they are useful.

No problem!

The general opinion is that the title attribute in links is useful for usability, but people haven't seen it help for rankings. Also, if you look in the Google cache, you can see alt text for images that are links, but you don't see the title attribute.
