i am quite confused about how to improve a site's ranking in different SE's. In books, articles and blogs, i have read that inbound links are the main factor that play a major part in improving a site's ranking. But i dont agree with this, i think that inbound links nodoubt are the part of this, and i think that there are also some other factors that include to improve a site ranking.
Can anyone tell me the right way of improving site's ranking?
What are the factors and most importantly about inbound links?

I have listed out few activities, however to make these activties work well, it is important to take full ownership and do it regularly and it is assured to have your rankings in the top lsitings in all search engines.
1. One way links from theme releavent websites having good google PR
2. Contextual Links on various high ranking online resources like directories, article directories,classifieds,press releases,etc.
3. Blogs Creation and Posting
4. Forum Participation
5. HTML Codings as W3C standarads
6. Keywords enriched Content
7. Static and keyword oriented URLs
The list goes on with many more activties and to start the above will start giving results.

Will you please define contextual links a little bit. and please also give some suggestion about .aspx site.Will .aspx site give same results as .html site gives. Also about Blog creation, a blog in my site or the bolgs that offer one way links?
Currently i am working with a company. And i am working as assistant seo. i have knowlege about seo but not so clear. The activities you have provided are very best.
